On the Kawasaki project:
I omitted that little detail on my previous post but no doubt you all figured it out. Today was an incredibly nice day for late October so I took advantage of it and did some outside sandblasting in the slide rails, which are too big for my cabinet. Still a long way to go but it’s a start.
Also pulled the spare m…Read More -

Having problems with my laptop so trying to post with my phone so look out, anything can happen. Found a good front swing arm on eBay but it was missing the lower shaft. I had some in my other swing arms but all were seized. Drastic times call for drastic measures so I split the tube. Eventually it came out and is usable.

As Gary mentioned, the summer cabin season is officially over for us and we are back at the house full time. The bright side is that after a couple of weeks of catch-up on things, there will be a lot more time for the shop.
That will allow me to really focus on the rear suspension purgatory that I seem to have found myself in. This is the…Read More

I’ve got a True or False question for Kelly. Since the current topic is of the rear suspension, with the current layout/configuration of the components, nothing has really changed over the years. Just a few tweeks here and there but the same principle has been with us for many years. True or False.

From a conceptual perspective I think that is largely true. Most modern sleds still run some form of sprung slide rail suspension. What engineers have done with the concept is light-years better than the early days. 14 inches of travel sure feels a lot better than 4 when you hit a rough stretch of trail.

Word Has It….Kelly’s back in his shop! Summer’s over so watch for updates soon!
In the mean time, take a guess at the pictured engine. Engine OEM and what sled did it belong to.-

BINGO! Here’s the story behind the engine…https://www.arcticinsider.com/the-loudest-wildest-most-dominant-sled-of-its-time-1971-arctic-cat-king-kat/

The Kawasaki Project”
In spite of a lack of evidence, work has occurred in occasional bursts in the off season. I did address the major crack in the seat foam, most likely due to running it without a seat cover. I cut out most of the bad foam, glued in a replacement piece, and shaped it to (mostly) match the existing foam. There is a little…Read More -

Some of us are old enough to remember the album “Twin Sons of Different Mothers”. That comes to mind when I look at this photo. Imagine yourself walking into a dealer showroom in 1979 and see these two sitting on the showroom floor. It would be a ‘Where do I sign” moment.

You did this one on purpose 😁. A third ew433F in my area just posted… I could own 3 for $1k… I think all “C” guys don’t use internet!

That’s just the kind of guy Gary is. The one in Montrose, MN is still for sale and everyday I fight the urge to buy it and pick it up when I head to the Cities at the end of the month. I have no use for it but I think I know someone who does.

Part of the fun is the suspense in looking. Just spent 3 years looking for a turntable from the early 70’s I had. Same thing, always a state or two away. Get home from last ride of the season, had surgery, get home in afternoon and bamm, one popped up a block away from my snowmobile buddy in Illinois! The satisfaction on the serendipitous find i…Read More

Agree, it’s a great feeling when something you’ve been searching for pops up where you can get to it and at your price. I’m currently casually monitoring the market for a 76 – 78 Cyclone/Liquifire but it would have to meet the mentioned conditions for me to bite. There are a couple around at the right price but 500 mi. away. Not quite ready for…Read More

I think there might be a ew433 about 90 miles from me. Just two photos in the ad. Out of focus on the back tunnel to see if it is a “c”. Asked the dude what model it is and he sent a 10 second video front to back but no way to see the model number on the tunnel. He said need to snatch it up quick, someone coming today. He says it is a 1997 Yamaha 🤦

I’m real interested in hearing how this has unfolded and if it is the coveted Model C. You have to wonder about some of these sellers. Asking if it’s a Model C is not a hard question and for sure it’s not a 97. I see ads for vehicles on Marketplace all the time where the make/model of vehicle that is listed doesn’t match the photo. Same with…Read More

The calendar is telling me it’s time to revisit another sled project, in this case a 79 TX 440. Looking at the photo, this may seem like Deja ‘Vue all over again but trust me, this project was a whole different ballgame from the previous 340 project, even though the only obvious difference is the 440 decal.
For starters, this sled was ROU…Read More
